To my first year self,

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my time at UVA, it’s the power of connection. Whether that be through my sport, academics, or any number of outside clubs and opportunities. In the next five years, you will have the pleasure of developing lasting relationships with the most incredible individuals who I’ve no doubt will go on to change the world. The community here at UVA is so special and one that you will forever cherish.

In your teammates especially, you will find a family that will love and support you through thick and thin, and who will never fail to make you laugh. Getting to see their smiley faces everyday will easily be the best part of your experience here at UVA. You will make so many wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. You’ll feel incredibly blessed to have them all in your world, and you won’t be able to imagine having a better group to share this experience with. They will push you daily to be your best self and show you what it means to strive for excellence on and off the field. To lead with kindness and compassion in all you do, and to love others well.

Through my time here I’ve come to learn that life is so much bigger than just soccer; and to never take a single moment for granted. That it’s not about what you do but who you do it with. You are so lucky to do it with some of the most selfless, kind-hearted and loving people out there. While I might be leaving UVA to start the next chapter of my life, believe me when I say that the friendships and connections you will make will follow you everywhere.

At the end of the day, it’s not what you know, but who you know that will make the biggest difference in your life. As much as you will remember the feeling of playing here, the thing you will remember the most are all of the people who will make your time here nothing short of extraordinary. At a time in your life where you thought you would feel out of place, they will make Charlottesville home. For that I will be forever grateful.

Hoos forever and always.
